Tony and Sue always claimed that they came to preaching from the entertainment industry, where Sue was an actress, and Tony was a successful promoter. They CLAIM they gave it all up to preach the gospel. The REAL truth is that they were a couple of grifters hanging around the fringes of the entertainment industry because they knew there was a lot of money to be made there. Neither of them had any talent, so they spent all their time trying to hustle those who did. When these losers failed at hustling entertainers, they decided to become "preachers". Sue modeled herself after Aimee Semple McPherson and the two of them concocted these "supernatural" testimonies of how the Lord had called them. When the churches wouldn't buy in on their scam, they recruited hippies off the street. That's when they discovered they'd hit paydirt. They could use and abuse these people as their personal slaves, paying them nothing and putting them to work at hard labor. They took away all of their personal freedoms, and separated them from their friends, family, and other support groups. The "hippies" lived in absolute squalor with undying devotion to Tony and Sue, while they spent like the thieves they were, taking trips to Vegas, Europe, and Israel. Sue came down with cancer, and they had the audacity to claim it was because of the sins of the congregation that she was sick and couldn't be healed. She still continued to spend money on expensive clothes, cars, houses, and furniture throughout her illness, and even decided to have a nose job! All the while her minions were working day and night, and spending whatever time they weren't working praying to God that he would heal her. Now, why would God want to do that? |

Yes and tragically, the SAGA continues.
While Susan was on her death bed, she told Tony Alamo to go to Europe "whatever you do, do not take any of the sisters for wives or it will just turn into a mess, just let those kids go, let them have the church."
After Susan's death from cancer (for which he blamed the congregation) the hidden Tony Alamo emerged out of hiding. His penchant for raping little girls and child abuse surfaced full steam. Now he no longer had any restriction from the top, no reigns or constraints from Susan Alamo.
Now it was TONY ALAMO UNLEASHED. He proceeds to carry out the most horrendous desires of his wicked heart.
He starts out after several failed marriages to women closer to his own age range going from one wife to the next wife to the next, some who divorced him for physical and mental cruelty and abuse. All the while Tony Alamo claimed that God had given him each one of these beautiful wives.
After numerous failed marriages to women his own age - Tony Alamo now turns to raping and forcing little underage girls from his congregation, using the fear of God to scare them into becoming his wives. He physically abused and beat them into submission and had children by some of them keeping them locked up in confinement with guards, cameras and surveillance equipment to keep them from escaping.
Some managed to escape and tell their brave stories, which can be found on this board. Jody F., Tammy S., Nikki F., Katrina F, to name just a few. who had the courage to come forward and give the horrific account of the abuse they received from Tony Alamo.
Tony Alamo now says it's ok to be a liar, be a thief, be a polygamist, be a wolf in sheep's clothing, etc. as long as it is for the Lord.
Keep in mind that all the while he is doing these horrific offences to God and man, he is calling himself a "world pastor" and behind a "pulpit" and his joke of a radio broadcast, he is calling himself a holy man of God.
To this day he still succeeds to live a luxurious lifestyle while the few remaining slaves live in squalor compared to him.

You know something anchored,? I sure did learn alot in the church,I sure did do alot of praying in the church,I sure did get alot more witnessing in,in the church,I sure am glad and thankful that some old timers like your self,put in the time to read and teach me the word of God,when you led the reading group anchored,you would always pray for the Lord to come down and write His Word on the table of our hearts,thank you anchored for doing that and teaching me and others to do that,I still carry that on and God keeps writing His word on my heart. |

We were put into groups to learn the heresy they espoused, not what the Bible taught. No one was allowed to be alone, "lest the devil get in". The real purpose was to keep people from getting out of that hell-hole. Most people who left had to escape, sneaking out when no one was watching. I'm glad I finally got out. I'm thankful that I'm now truly free, not bound to that evil cult. |

Anyone with a heart toward the Lord, who feels called to his service, DO NOT GET SNARED BY THIS CULT! Find a church that really cares about souls, and for people as human beings, like Jesus does, not like this place that uses people until they have nothing left to offer, then tosses them onto the streets. I don't regret having read the Word of God with brothers. I learned a lot reading with them without Tony and Sue's intereference or influence. What I do regret is that I, too, fell prey to some of their heresy. At the top of the list, with just a few of the issues, was the control of every second of our lives. The 100% condemnation, damned if you do, damned if you don't. The complete elimination of the love side of God turning the fear of God, instead, into the fear of Tony and Sue. And the twisting misuse of scripture to keep us prisoners there and under their complete control over every aspect of our lives. It took me a long time to get over being angry with myself for being a part of that insanity and not recognizing sooner than I did that that was not scriptural. |

I remember a brother that would talk about the love side of the gospel while giving his testimony at Cresent Heights. Daryl Minniberiat. He would quote Psalms a lot. Especially the "lovingkindness" and "longsuffering" Psalms. It was good to balance things out. Anybody else remember that? |

I remember Tony jumping up banging his tambourine as a cue for the band to start playing and the congregation to break into song whenever someone gave a testimony that wasn't quite to his liking. Talk about brainwashing. |

Toenee and Sue founded their cult on heresy. It was ingrained in everything they taught. It's just so good to read the testimonies of the brothers and sisters who got away, and got their own lives back. Now they are free to really seek truth, not the filth Toenee espouses. |

Susan Alamo, aka Susan Fleetwood, Susan Lipowitz, nee Edith Opal Horn, was his wife and partner in deceit. Together, they founded the Alamo cult, which brought together hundreds of street people, who they manipulated through fear into providing them with a luxurious lifestyle, while these people lived in squalor. Tony and Susan controlled every facet of their followers lives. Case in point, how long they had to shower. Susan is now dead, but Tony continues to manipulate his followers through fear and bullying. He has those who oppose him, including young children, beaten mercilessly. He has taken several underage girls in his cult as his wives. Some of these girls have escaped to tell their stories. |

Tony Alamo is a well-known evangelist who, after a radical conversion to Christianity, founded what is now called Tony Alamo Christian Ministries with his wife, Susan, later establishing its headquarters in Dyer (Crawford County). Widely regarded as a cult, Tony Alamo Christian Ministries has been at the center of a number of lawsuits and government actions, and its leader has been jailed on a variety of charges, including income tax evasion and the theft of his late wife’s body.
Much of the information on Alamo’s early, pre-conversion life is spurious at best, on account of Alamo’s constant exaggerations of his importance and/or sinfulness. He was born Bernie Lazar Hoffman on September 20, 1934, in Joplin, Missouri. His father was a Jewish immigrant from Romania who, Alamo claims, had been dance instructor for Rudolf Valentino. When he was a teenager, Alamo left Joplin for the West Coast. He apparently adopted the name Marcus Abad for some time and achieved some modicum of success as a “big band crooner” in Los Angeles, California. Alamo went on to own a health club and work in the music industry. He claims that he recorded a hit record single in the early 1960s, “Little Yankee Girl,” and that he was asked to manage musical acts including the Beatles, the Doors, and the Rolling Stones; there is no evidence for any of this.
In 1966, after serving jail time for a weapons charge, Alamo married Edith Opal Horn from Alma (Crawford County), also of Jewish descent. Nine years his senior, Edith Horn, a two-time divorcée who already had a daughter, had moved to Hollywood to become an actress but ended up supporting herself partly by scamming churches into believing her to be a missionary in need of money. Some sources say that they changed their names to Tony and Susan Alamo after their marriage, though Tony Alamo has claimed that he changed his own name earlier to mimic the Italian-American singers who were popular at the time. |

According to Alamo, while he was in a meeting at a Beverly Hills investment firm, Jesus came to him and told him to preach the second coming of Christ. After both he and Susan converted to Christianity, they established the Music Square Church and began a Hollywood street ministry, passing out religious tracts and preaching especially to drug addicts, alcoholics, and prostitutes. Their ministry was part of the “Jesus People” movement, in which many of those involved in the counterculture of the 1960s began proclaiming a spiritual transformation and an allegiance to Jesus.
Alamo’s Pentecostal theology includes a virulent paranoia and extreme anti-Catholicism that places the Vatican as the real power broker behind the White House, the United Nations, and the media. The various publications his ministry offers, such as The Vatican Moscow Washington Alliance, detail his conspiracy theories. Alamo has also claimed that UFOs are divine messengers from heaven and signs of the end times.
Communal living was a staple of the Music Square Church. The church quickly expanded its holdings, buying several businesses and establishing a compound in nearby Saugus. Members usually lived in a commune and worked at an Alamo-owned business, turning over much of their salaries to the church. With the labor of their followers, the Alamos turned their church into a hefty financial empire, even as many members had to scavenge food from supermarket dumpsters and were forbidden from flushing the toilets more than every two or three days.
In 1975, the Alamos purchased land in Dyer, near Alma, and there established the main branch of the Music Square Church, which later was called the Holy Alamo Christian Church Consecrated before its present name was adopted. At one time, Alamo owned as many as twenty-nine businesses in nearby Alma, including Alamo Western Wear, as well as Alamo Restaurant and Alamo Discount Grocery. Again, followers worked in these businesses for practically nothing. Soon, the organization established yet another compound in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1976, the U.S. Department of Labor brought charges against Alamo for violations of the Fair Labor Standard Act. Alamo had not been issuing checks to his employees and offered only the most menial financial recompense, leading some disgruntled followers to begin reporting his activities. He lost the suit as well as an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1985, the same year that the IRS retroactively revoked the tax exempt status for his church for the years 1977 to 1980. Alamo’s attorneys kept the issue before the courts from 1985 to 1992, arguing that church-owned enterprises were exempt from federal income taxes because they were churches in disguise. Special Trial Judge Larry L. Nameroff ruled, however, that the organization was essentially “operated for Tony’s and Susan’s private benefit.” On June 8, 1994, he was convicted on one charge of filing a false income tax return and three charges of failing to file a tax return. The IRS demanded $10.2 million in back taxes and seized some of the church’s property for an auction; in addition, the judgment against Alamo showed him owing another $5 million to former church members for unpaid work. Alamo quickly declared bankruptcy, and his related businesses collapsed. In September 1994, Alamo was sentenced by the Federal District Court for the Western District of Tennessee to six years in the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana (Miller County). In July 1998, he was transferred to a Texarkana halfway house, from which he was released on December 8 of the same year. |

While Alamo was tied up in the courts on federal tax evasion charges, other allegations were levied against him from various quarters. Acting upon reports of child abuse, on March 25, 1988, sheriff’s deputies raided the Saugus, California, compound in order to reunite three boys with their natural fathers; the fathers had been members of the Arkansas compound but had been excommunicated. Their wives had remarried more loyal subjects of Alamo, and their families had relocated to California. U.S. District Judge Morris Arnold, finding that they had indeed been abused, later awarded damages to the boys in question. Alamo claimed that he and his followers had no assets and were living “hand to mouth”; he also apparently issued a death threat against Arnold, though he was later acquitted of that charge. One of the fathers, Robert Miller, had previously overseen the church’s trucking company and alleged that Alamo had embezzled $100,000 from it. In 1990, Alamo failed to appear in court to answer these charges and was ruled guilty in default.
Probably the strangest incident surrounding Tony Alamo Christian Ministries has to do with the body of Susan Alamo, who died of cancer on April 8, 1982. Tony Alamo quickly predicted that she would be resurrected and kept her embalmed body on display at the Arkansas compound for approximately six months before placing it in a mausoleum. In February 1991, Alamo ordered his followers to vacate the Arkansas compound prior to a federal raid and to bring along the body of Susan Alamo. A chancery court judge ordered Alamo to return the body in 1995 in response to a suit filed by Christhiaon Coie, Susan Alamo’s estranged daughter. On July 23, 1998, after a three-year legal battle, his followers brought the body to a funeral home in Van Buren (Crawford County). The following month, Susan Alamo was re-interred in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Alamo’s various marriages are controversial and difficult to number. Following Susan’s death, rumors spread that he had taken two fifteen-year-old girls as “wives.” On June 23, 1984, he married Swedish native Birgitta Gyllenhammar in Las Vegas, Nevada, though this marriage ended two years later; she later claimed that Alamo wanted her to have plastic surgery to look like Susan and that he regularly beat and drugged her. In the midst of his supposed third marriage, a 1986 Arkansas Gazette report concluded that Gyllenhammar had actually been Alamo’s sixth wife, as he had apparently been married four times prior to Susan. Between 1986 and 1990, the preacher remarried twice.
When Alamo was released from federal prison in 1998, he quickly reassumed his status as the head of a now smaller Tony Alamo Christian Ministries, which is currently headquartered in Miller County, with branches in Fort Smith (Sebastian County) and Los Angeles. He currently can be heard on over a dozen radio stations in the U.S. and more in Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. He has claimed that the government actions against him were merely the machinations of Satan, and his followers still attract controversy for distributing his printed literature across the U.S. and beyond. |

I would also like to point out that the Holy Spirit DID fill us in those days and souls were saved in spite of the Anti-Christ duo.
My granny Cook took me to the "Hippie Church" in Hollywood while I was still in high school in 1969. We made handmade quilts out of scraps for the very young and very few of them (mostly homeless, drug addicted street kids). My granny had a passion for the "kids" and her love did not go unappreciated. God honoured her love and prayers, as he honoured everyone's individual spiritfilled love. Yes we ate handwashed garbage and ate sour doughnuts, we were innocents seeking God and salvation. That kind of spirit finds God under rocks, in prisons, and yes...even in cults. These current prisoners still need prayer and soon Tony will meet his Maker and be held accountable for his earthly deceits, but the survivors must be allowed to tell their tales somewhere. Thank you for providing a safe place to do this. |

Heynow ----Here some fresh news for ya that has happened in the last couple years.
Three of Tony's "wives" have escaped the Tower of Terror, also known as Tony Alamo's House of Forcible Rapes.
Desiree K., whom Tony forced himself upon when she was only 9 or 10 years old escaped his evil clutches. And Amy E. who escaped Tony's raping and his cruel beatings. Jeannie O. escaped/left whom Tony raped when she was only 15 or 16 years old, and let's not forget the numerous brutal beatings she suffered at his hand.
All of these girls escaped within the last couple years. They no longer have to be forced into Tony Alamo's bed of whoredoms and made to be his concubines in order to make it to heaven.
God gives everyone freedom of choice. And these young girls would've NEVER picked you, Tony Alamo for their mate. They didn't want a fat, blind, wrinkled-up, ugly, elevator boot-wearing, great-grandfather-aged pervert for a mate. They dumped your sorry self, they kicked you to curb and they threw you away like the piece of trash that you are. |

I have never denied saying that yet there is more to that post that anchored is leaving out.read it yet anchored insists that I have done it many times,and yes it is my fruit and Yes I did exactly what God wanted me to do and he found his sister and she was not there and he thanked me for being used by God to lead him to rededicate.I know that I handeled him the way God wanted me to do,hey read the whole post.I beleive very much that anchored is very bitter that I was used,if you read his post be fore you will see how the bitterness in most of the folks on this board drove the man away they attacked this poor man that was trying to find the light,and after anchored and quite a few others seen God used me they began to attack me.It is not funny,it is your soul that you are playing with George |

The things that I learned in the tony and susan alamo christian foudation,(whish that was the name of it then)I was taught to read the bible,pray,and witness about the wonderful saving grace of God..since that time of learning I have been used by God to do many things,here is one recently,last tuesday I beleive it was,I had telemarketer called my house,and started to go on,and I was going to say the wrong thing first,and tell him to take my name off of their calling list and that I was not intrested,but I was told in my head to shut up and listen first,so my inner me did shut up,and listen,then,I was able to be used by God to pray him through,right then.. I can get in the way of God,I can interject my own stupidity,or I can shut up and be used by God,I choose the third,I am a unprofitable servant,I do what is my reasonable service is,I am saved by grace,not of works alone,I am wanting to make God happy and to be used by God,I am a sinner saved by the mercies of God,I am wanting to be stronger for God,I am wanting to make it through the great tribulation that is coming so quickly,and the more that I can be used by God the stronger I will become to help,not myslf so much,but others,my family,people from the church,in the church,the more I die daily,the more I can be used by God. |

Praise the Lord,Les I do remember Bowling Green very well,as a matter of a fact Gilbert tried to get a 12 yr old girl to (marry) him as he was stealing from the insurance companies by taking money from them for putting felt paper on the homes and telling the mexican crews not to put the felt on and we had a falling out over that very issue,I also remember when you sold me the jobs that you had closed when you were homesick and as you told me fed up with Gilbert Vincent.

There is hope and God will receive you when you come to him regardless of what Tony has said to or about you.
My heart goes out to the poor abused girls,I have been greatly wounded by him and others,remember I was 16 when I went into the foundation and I havn't suffered near as much as these girls so many people are trying to help.
And yet you still defend and send people to the foundation,may the Lord have mercy on your soul.

One thing that I have learned in my short life is that when the Lord is moving and using someone they do not have to force their views on others,the Lord opens the doors and the Holy Ghost convicts the heart,so it is fruitless to try to exalt one's own agenda through the flesh.
Praise the name of the living God,as I said before if someone is backbiting in the darkness it is clearly sin and my Holy bible tells me that which doth make manifest is light and Jesus is the light.
If anyone has an accusation concerning me then obey the Lord and come to me with it.

I was a victim of Tony Alamo when he stole money from me.

I know who my accusers are and I also know what is being said so c'mon out of the darkness and quit hiding behind the devil.
Face me,you and I know who you are.
I was 24 yrs old and paid the transmission shop to rebuild the motor in my van,the money was borrowed and the van was the only means of transportation and finances. I had two children in diapers and I know all of you that were in the foundation paid a high price but you don't know how much people like me paid as a visiting Christian for 12 years.
When I picked my van up it was knocking and had no water in the radiator so I took it back to the transmission shop immediatly to allow them to correct the problem as I had a written warranty against knocks and leaks.'The so-called brothers refused to do anything.
Finally I approached Tony personally and showed him my warranty signed by Sanford White and Tony told me that if he didn't do me right that God would not bless him and the very next day I called the house to get the go ahead for the repairs and was told that I was exasperating the Pastor and I never got my van fixed.
I gave the matter to the Lord and the very next month the Lord gave me 6000 dollars in my first month of business,30 years ago.
Tony stole 600 God gave me 6000 hmmmmmmmmmm! |
