Is that a Unificationist at your door?

[Submitted by a FACTNet reader]

On June 7, 1998 a man came to my door asking me to sign a paper to indicate my support of world peace and world fellowship. He then shoved a clipboard with form papers on it in front of me, trying to get me to sign it, telling me wonderful platitudes about unity and peace. I looked and saw places for name and address of all family members, and a line stating that this would be a blessing to my family or something to that effect.

Because I know about the Unificationist beliefs and deceptive practices, I was on guard and refused to sign. The man continued door-to-door to make this request of my neighbors. I then confronted him and asked if he was a Unificationist and he said he was. I informed him that he was being deceptive and he said they just wanted to pray for us. I let him know he could pray without asking for names and addresses.

I am reporting this to you because I believe that they are using this method to get names for their next "Blessing" in which they will claim to have blessed or married many thousands of couples at one time, as they do almost every year. Not only is this deceptive to the people who sign their names and addresses at the door, because they are never told that they are talking to a Unificationist or that they are agreeing to be part of Moon's marriage ceremony, but it is also deceptive to the public who will later be given false figures on the number of people who actually participated. We also have no idea how they plan to use the addresses that are collected.

I hope that you find this information useful.
