Heartbreak and Rage: Ten Years Under Sun Myung Moon
by Gordon Neufeld

"This is the story of K. Gordon Neufeld, a Canadian who, while travelling through California in 1976, became caught up in the Unification Church of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, and ended up remaining a member of that group for 10 years. In the process, Neufeld participated in one of Moon's notorious mass weddings and became "married" to a bride with whom he was never permitted to live. How could a normal person with an undergraduate university degree get so caught up in a radical fringe group? This book looks at the techniques of mind control that were used to bring Neufeld into the fold and to keep him locked in, but also examines what psychological vulnerabilities may have contributed to his recruitment and lengthy commitment. Though the existence of mind control has sometimes been disputed, this book demonstrates that it is very, very real...this may be the first book in English to reveal what it is like -- from the standpoint of an ordinary member -- to have one's spouse selected personally by Moon from a roomful of strangers. Heartbreak and Rage recounts the complete arc of Neufeld's cult involvement from his initial transfixion to his final letting go."

"Allen, as political leader of the Moonies in North America in1970, went on a V.I.P. tour of Asia including Japan, Korea, Vietnamand Cambodia. In Japan he met and worked with Japanese leaders of the Unification Church and with many of the key figures in the World Anti Communist League from Europe, the U.S., Asia and Latin America . In Korea he had a series of private audiences with Mr. Moon during which he was instructed on "Moon's plan of attack in America". In Vietnam he met with President Thieu. In Cambodia he met with General Lon Nol, the leader of Cambodia. On returning to America Allen was invited to join the Nixon White House staff as a "youth consultant". MoonStruck provides a cogent exposition of Moon's global political strategy as well as a moving first hand account of an idealistic young man who followed Moon into the abyss of religious facism.
