Lawrence Wollersheim
Stands Corrected After reading the e-mail below I realised that my slip of the tongue was completely wrong. I hereby retract any and all statements that I could have made during the course of the program that stated or implied that "Raul Lopez's brain damage was caused by Scientology". This is not a correct reflection of the Raul Lopez story. I though I said that Scientology had got hundreds of thousands of dollars from a brain damaged individual (Lopez). It was the end of the interview and if I was not clear about this or mis-stated it in any way I apologize for any confusion. ---- From: "Fredric L. Rice"
<frice@SkepticTank.ORG> Greetings! If you would, please post
this somewhere on FACTNet since it corrects a mistake that was
stated on the radio this morning. -=- It was a wonderful radio
interview this morning (15/May/2002) on KROQ FM 106.7 Los
Angeles and millions of listeners not only got to hear Mr.
Wollersheim describe calmly and matter-of-factly numerous
elements about Scientology which are well documented and utterly
undeniable, yet listeners were also treated to Scientology
spokesman John Charmichael who came on the air and started
emotionally ranting and libeling his way out of not having to
address the issues that Mr. Wollersheim brought up. One thing that Mr.
Wollersheim stated wrong -- probably because the interview air
time was coming to an end quickly -- was that Raul Lopez's brain
damage was caused by Scientology. I suspect that the notoriously
criminal Scientology organization will try to focus on that
error and ignore all the rest of the information which was
presented so FACTNet should post a note indicating that Mr. Raul
Lopez was in an automotive accident which caused his injuries
and the Scientology organization swindled Mr. Lopez out of
almost every dime of his insurance settlement with the claim
that they (Scientology) could cure him. So it wasn't Scientology
that caused the brain damage. If anything, Scientology criminal
activities conducted against Mr. Lopez were _worse_ since they
knew he was experiencing mental difficulties which made him easy
prey for the notorious cult. Toward the very end of the
radio interview another follower or the notorious cult -- Joel
in Glendora, California -- called the radio station and claimed
that he knew nothing about what Scientology does even though he
also claimed that he had been in the cult for many years. Joel
claimed that none of what is well documented in the court record
takes place. It was great hearing Mr. Wollersheim underscore the
fact that Scientologists that don't rock the boat, can still
afford to pay the cult money, or try to leave are treated well
enough. Mr. Wollersheim informed Joel that he could check the
FACTNet.ORG web site to read the documentation for himself yet
Joel snorted and ignored the suggestion entirely. All in all, it was a wonderful exposure of the cult. --------------
